ADMISSION TO THE POSTGRADUATE COURSES – 2010 SESSION

IMPORTANT DATES

1. Last date for accepting Applications - 14.12.2009

2. Admit Cards will be available on CIP website from 30.01.2010

3. Date of Entrance Examination - 21.02.2010

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the following postgraduate degree/diploma courses of Ranchi University and conducted at this Institute, commencing from May 1, 2010.

GROUP A

1. M.D. (Psychiatry) .. 5 seats (UR-02, OBC-02, SC-01)

Duration .. 3 years (exemption of one year is granted to those who have passed Diploma of 2 years duration in the same subject).

Qualification .. M.B.B.S. degree of any University recognized by Medical Council of India, with one year compulsory rotating Internship completed by February, 15, 2010.

2. Diploma in Psychological Medicine .. 9 seats (UR-04, OBC-03, SC-01, ST-01)

Duration .. 2 years

Qualification .. M.B.B.S. degree of any University recognized by Medical Council of India, with one year Compulsory rotating Internship completed by February, 15, 2010.

GROUP B

3. Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology .. 4 seats (UR-4)Duration .. 3 years for M.A./M.Sc.(Psychology) degree holders and 2 years after M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology/ Clinical Psychology

Qualification .. First Class Master’s degree in Psychology regular course Or M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology/ Clinical Psychology of any recognized University, for 3 years and 2 years course respectively.

4. M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology .. 18 seats (UR-09, OBC-05, SC-03, ST-01)

Duration .. 2 years

Qualification .. M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology regular course of a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate.

GROUP C

5. M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work .. 12 seats (UR-06, OBC-03, SC-02, ST-01)

Duration .. 2 years

Qualification .. M.A. in Sociology or Social Work regular course of a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate.

GROUP D

6. Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing .. 18 seats (UR-09, OBC-05, SC-03, ST-01)

Duration .. One year

Qualification .. ‘A’ Grade Certificate or Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.

Experience .. Two years experience as Staff Nurse.Group A: For MD(Psychiatry) and D.P.M.:- Selected candidates may be considered for Residency Scheme as applicable to the Central Government Institutions. The residency scheme is limited and may not be available to some candidates joining the course on enhanced seats. However, it may be provided subject to sanctioning of the same by theGovernment.

Group B & C: Selected candidates may be considered for scholarship of Rs. 2500/- permonth in the first and second year, and Rs. 2800/- per month in the third year. Thescholarships is limited and may not be available to some candidates joining the course onenhanced seats. However, it may be provided subject to sanctioning of the same by theGovernment.

Group D: Selected candidates may be considered for stipend of Rs. 250/- per month. Thescholarships is limited and may not be available to some candidates joining the course onenhanced seats. However, it may be provided subject to sanctioning of the same by theGovernment.

Selection procedure for M.D. and D.P.M. courseThe selection will depend upon marks obtained in the entrance examination. The entrance test will be of MCQ type consisting of 100 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. There will be 0.25 negative marking for each wrong answer. The test will have questions of MBBS standard in the following approximate distribution:

20% from Psychiatry and allied behavioural sciences

15% from Neurology

30% from General Medicine

35% from rest of Medical subjects

For Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, M.Phil in Medical and Social Psychology andM.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work courses also the entrance test will be of MCQ typeconsisting of 100 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. The test will have questions ofM.A. /M.Sc. standard. There will be 0.25 negative marking for each wrong answer.For Diploma in Psychiatric nursing course there shall not be a written entranceexamination. However, there will be an interview for the selection of the candidates.

Note:

Candidates applying for both M.D. and D.P.M. and for both Ph.D. (ClinicalPsychology) and M.Phil in Medical and Social Psychology courses starting fromMay 1, 2010 need to submit only one application each. They should clearly mentionthe names of the course applied for, in order of preference.

For MD (Psychiatry 3 Years Course) and Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM):-

One year Compulsory Rotating Internship to be completed by 15.02.2010

For MD (Post DPM, 2 Years Course), Ph.D.(Clinical Psychology, Post M.Phil 2 Yearscourse) :- Certificate of passing DPM, M.Phil (M&SP/Clinical Psychology) on orbefore 30.04.2010.

For M.Phil (M&SP), M.Phil (PSW):- M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology, Sociology & SocialWork, the results to be declared on or before 15.02.2010.

For the D.P.N.:- 2 years working experience certificate as a staff nurse on or before15.02.2010.

The candidates who do not fulfill above criteria need not apply.

The number of seats in each discipline is subject to change without assigning anyreason.

15% and 7 ˝% seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribecandidates respectively, subject to availability of such candidates. There shall also bereservation of 3% horizontal reservation for physically-handicapped persons {onlyfor locomotory disabilities of lower limbs between 50% to 70%} subject toavailability of such candidates. There will be 27% seats reserved for OBCcandidates subject to availability of such candidates. There will be no reservation inPh.D. in Clinical Psychology course.

Attested photocopies of all certificates, mark sheets, testimonials, CasteCertificate/Disability certificate if applicable, etc. should be attached with the applicationform.

Details of research experience, if any, in the form of research publications in peerreviewedjournals or research papers presented in scientific conferences may be attached onseparate sheet(s) of paper. Reprints of research papers may also be attached.

The application form is to be submitted electronically by internet to CIPwebsite: www.cipranchi.nic.in. and a hard copy of the same application form printedon A4 size bond paper complete in all respect along with a Demand Draft of Rs.400/-for General candidate and Rs.300/ for SC/ST/OBC candidates(non-refundable) infavour of Director, CIP, Ranchi payable at Bank of Baroda, Kanke, Ranchi shouldreach the Director, Central Institute of Psychiatry, Kanke, Ranchi-834006(Jharkhand) by December 14, 2009. The hard copy of the application form must be dulysigned by the candidate and his/her photograph pasted in appropriate place. Incompleteapplications not accompanied with Demand Draft, attested photocopies of all certificates,mark sheets, testimonials, Caste Certificate/Disability certificate if applicable orapplications received after due date , i.e., December 14, 2009, shall not be considered. Theadmit card and a covering letter having necessary instructions will be made available onthe CIP website (www.cipranchi.nic.in). The admit card and the covering letter are to bedownloaded and printed by the candidates and the same to be brought with them to theexamination centre. Examinee will not be allowed to enter the examination hall with anyelectronic communication gadgets viz. Mobile Phones, Pager etc. Examinees, who come tothe examination centre, with any such gadget, he/she has to make his/her own arrangementsfor keeping these outside the examination centre. This should be strictly complied with.From the pool of applicants suitable candidates would be asked to appear for awritten examination and interview/counseling at this institute, which shall be betweenFebruary 21–27, 2010. The last date for joining the courses is 31st March, 2010. Thecandidates are strongly advised to visit the C.I.P. website from time to time for relevantinformation and instructions. Please download the prospectus for essential information,which also contains information related to filling-up the application form.The Institute maintains Men’s and Women’s hostels for a limited number of itspostgraduate students.
