  1. Take the English test -
    • For admission to courses in 'higher education' category, an overall score of at least 6 is required in IELTS (International English Language Testing System), conducted by British Council
    • For admission to courses in 'secondary school certificate courses' & 'VET' category, an overall score between 5 - 6 is required depending upon the individual course chosen.
    • A score of 550 or above in TOEFL is also acceptable
       
  2. Select the institute
    • Directly / via representative of the particular institute in India
    • Entry is competitive and previous academic performance is taken into account
    • You need to obtain the "Letter of Offer" from the Institute chosen, to proceed to get the visa
  3. Apply for Visa
    • Those willing to study in Australia, are issued a Student Visa for the period which is equal to the duration of the course (part time study is not allowed for overseas students, and they must leave the country on completion of studies)
    • Application form for Student visa (Form 157W) can be obtained from Australian High Commission free of cost.
    • The application fee to be paid at the time of submission of visa form, is Rs 8000 (approx.)
    • Application for the student visa is assessed on the basis of
      • Evidence of enrolment in the institution ("Letter of Offer" issued by the institute)
      • Bona-fides
      • Financial status
  4. Final steps
    •  If the PVA (Preliminary Visa Assessment) requirements are met, the student is asked to
      • Pay the tution fees
      • Undergo Medical Examination
