Soft ticks have no hard shell (scutum). In the United States, only ticks of the genus Ornithodoros transmit human disease, namely, relapsing fever.
KFD is transmitted from the bite of an infected tick (Haemaphysalis spinigera is the major vector WHICH IS A HARD TICK.
